Department of Interior (DOI) – Natchez Trace Project

Due to the 2gig microwave frequency allocation, the Department of Interior Natchez Trace Parkway (NATR) was forced to re-design their communications system and backhaul solution covering the 440-mile parkway. Harris Corporation, teamed with ITL, presented the winning solution, allowing the safety sensitive system to remain operational while towers were replaced or structurally modified. All the shelters were modified or replaced and all the dishes and radios replaced with a higher frequency system while retaining connectivity and LMR coverage over the entire parkway. This 2-year project was finished on time and within budget, providing the customer with the solution they expected, with all unanticipated issues handled by the Harris/ITL team in a manner in keeping with the customer’s expectations. This project utilized all the talents and capabilities of ITL as an infrastructure provider from foundation installation to RF measuring and radio installation.
